What is the program I use to publish a technical manual?
I'm trying to publish a technical manual. Currently, approximately 500 pages. I am using Microsoft Publisher, but due to the size that I am dividing into seven different images, which are all great sages-MB (20 MB each) and slow my computer down. And they are a pain to try to match the print and page numbers. I tried to use Microsoft Word, but screws up the wrong format and it is difficult to work with what I need. I tried to Adobe Acrobat, but it seems very intuitive. And I have to be able to change later. I think that there should be more easy to do. What kind of program do professionals use? Right now my team to make small batches (like 5 books at a time and not expect to need many more.) But if I do, which is a publisher until the file format to be eligible?
Most professionals use Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress. Both are accepted by most publishers and can handle large documents. Quark can be a bit better for more documents and probably faster. Both are relatively expensive and have a steep learning curve. I do not know if one is open / import a Publisher file. Previously, PageMaker was the norm, but no more.
